What Comes First, the Chicken or the Egg?

“We can easily manage stress if we will only take, each day, the burden appointed to it. But the load will be too heavy for us if we carry yesterday’s burden over again today, and then add the burden of the morrow before we are required to bear it.”
―John Newton
Greetings to all,
Part of this message was sent in a newsletter on May 22, 2023. I wanted to transfer it here and save it before it disappeared. I added some comments.
As a metaphor, think about what happens when you don’t brush/clean your teeth for a few days. You accumulate “yuk,” right? It is the same with the mind. It’s important to “clear the air” on a daily basis if we want to manage stress, prevent the accumulation of toxic thoughts, and stay healthy.
Nowadays, stress is at an all time high. People "die suddenly," get angry at the slightest misunderstanding or burnout and can no longer work.
I just heard that 5 men are committing suicide EVERY HOUR! That’s 120 (actually it was 126) a day, 882 a week which, if I am NOT mistaken, is almost 46,000 per year. What a tragic loss!
My belief is that we are facing unprecedented world-wide disruptions which will continue for a while until we sail into calmer seas.
About 20 years ago, during an imagery session I was having with a colleague of mine, the following message popped up. I was going to go through a rough and fiery path - which I did - so that I could later help people survive their own rough and fiery paths.
Before my fiery challenges started, I had already learned different techniques that helped me weather the storms. I was metaphorically ship-wrecked, and learned to survive on an isolated island. I then built a raft with new techniques to finally find solid ground again and return to civilization.
I shared the video below in May (my contact information has changed. It is now https://hha-usa.com/calendar). I am adding a few comments following the video.
Check it out by clicking on the image (4:49) for a metaphor about how the brain accumulates stress... and how we can release it to live day-by-day, without accumulation, which is often the root cause of many dis-eases.
I’ve met several people who tell me that “I’ll take a break when my problem is solved,” or “I’ll relax when the situation is better.” In the meantime, they overeat, drink or take drugs (whether pharmaceutical or recreational) to mitigate the stress.
I was walking around Georgetown, CO, yesterday, a cute town with a quaint Christmas market, and found a towel with the caption, “So Are We Eating Our Feelings Or Drinking Them?” A better caption could have been, “Are We Dealing With Our Feelings, or Eating/Drinking Them?”
Did you know that when you are stressed out, you are unlikely to solve problems? The creative part of your brain/mind shuts down.
You decide: a) relax AFTER the stress is over or b) BEFORE you get too stressed out to be able to make sense of what’s happening? The chicken or the egg?
Dr. Benson has written several books on the subject, among them The Relaxation Response, Beyond the Relaxation Response, and especially The Break-Out Response. It’s often when we let go, take a break like a walk in nature, that solutions pop up in our mind.
You probably heard that it’s better to be happy before things are in order, rather than wait for things to be in order before you are happy. Again, the chicken or the egg?
Did you know that a thought only stays in the mind for 90 seconds? So, why does it keep looping? Because we keep the loop going. We can STOP IT!
There are MANY tools available in the new neuroscience / brain plasticity arena, which allow us to release stress, anxiety and worry in an instant.

Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Pickled Onions
Probiotics are supposed to be good for our gut health, yet are quite expensive if we are to take them on a daily basis. Moreover, they have a limited number of live microorganisms.
Buying quality sauerkraut is not inexpensive either.
What’s the solution? Make it yourself! It’s inexpensive, easy and quick. Here are pictures of Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Pickled Onions I made this week.
Let me know if you are interested in the recipes.
