Greetings to all,
Science is a dynamic field where established facts are continually challenged and refined through new questions and research.
This process of constant inquiry and revision is how our knowledge grows. Recently, I watched a presentation that questioned the long-held understanding of gravity. According to new research, gravity might not be what we think it is; instead, it could be an effect of toroidal spin. While the details are complex, the essence is that even fundamental scientific laws are open to re-evaluation
Similarly, our understanding of magnetism is evolving. Traditional explanations suggest that magnets attract or repel based on their poles—north attracts south, and like poles repel each other. However, new theories propose that this attraction may be related to electron distribution seeking equilibrium. These shifts in understanding highlight the ever-changing nature of scientific knowledge.
Beyond physics, these scientific concepts have found their way into the psychological realm. The Law of Attraction (LoA), popularized by the movie "The Secret" (2006), claims that positive or negative thoughts bring corresponding experiences into a person's life.
A few months ago, I made a video about recurring themes or memes. One of them was about essential oils. As a teenager, one of the first alternative therapies I used was Essential Oils. I loved these oils and took the Mint and the Lemon essential oils with me when I traveled through Europe and Asia. They worked wonders.
For some reasons, essential oils went in hiding for many years. Suddenly, once again, we have essential oils everywhere, with even more scientific research to back them up.
Today, the Law of Attraction is making a come back. I am getting many newsletters encouraging people to take a new course on a revamped Law of Attraction concept, and I was asked to teach a course as well. I am researching it.
Despite its resurgence and popularity, my experience with the LoA has been mixed. From 2006 to 2008, I was part of a group dedicated to teaching the LoA. Observing the outcomes for myself and others, I noticed that the promised results often failed to materialize, benefiting mainly those selling the courses.
Years ago, I was trapped in a cult. I had been a confident young woman traveling the world, yet had became a doormat, afraid of everything and everyone. I was curious to find out how it could have happened.
I studied many books on dark psychology and mind control. How do people get trapped and believe what, when analyzed, does not make sense?
Reading the book Propaganda (1928), by Edward Bernays (1891-1995) - considered the father of Public Relations and Marketing - answered many of my questions.
Bernays leveraged his uncle Sigmund Freud’s discovery of the subconscious mind to help create artificial values for the public at large. One of the best presentations on that subject is from my colleague and mentor, Dr. David Gruder. Click here for his enlightening 17-min. TED Talk.
Advertisers, cult leaders, politicians, even churches know how deeply ingrained psychological tactics can influence public perception and behavior, and leverage that knowledge to manipulate unsuspecting victims.
A contemporary of Bernays, Napoleon Hill, author of "Think and Grow Rich" (1937), has also been influential in shaping self-help and motivational narratives. However, Hill's controversial background and dubious claims raise questions about the foundations of his success principles. The parallels between Hill's work, the movie “The Secret”, and the LoA suggest a broader pattern of exploiting psychological vulnerabilities for profit.
Our subconscious mind has been bombarded with artificial values via movies and advertisements of luxury living, considered a “birthright.” It is thus easy to attract people to courses which would give them “the desire of their hearts” or what they wished for.
One of my daughters is a flight attendant on private jets. She often meets people who ask if they can pose beside the luxury jet, for a “project.” They don’t own the jet, they just pose beside it, making it appear that they enjoy a luxurious lifestyle in order to sell their product/course.
During my time with the LoA group, I avidly read all of Napoleon Hill’s works. Fascinated by his ideas, I devoured similar books with an insatiable appetite, including Kevin Trudeau’s “Your Wish Is Your Command.” Trudeau’s Global Information Network (GIN) presents itself as a "secret society" that reveals the secrets of the Law of Attraction through a series of twelve quite initiation levels.
One of K.T.’s claims is that, “What you want, wants you.” I would agree:
IF what you want comes from your heart’s purpose and energy
IF it is NOT generated from your hijacked mind, AND
IF you are willing to change your brain circuitry (brain plasticity techniques) that keeps you stuck in undigested life experiences.
We have a society that lives at the level of its wishes, yet the subconscious mind also carries wounds, which need to be cleared if we ever want to get to our wishes. Few people in the LoA movement talk about this.
Here is what Dr. David Gruder has to say about the Law of Attraction:
As the Be-All-End-All: The Law of Attraction by itself won't produce the results people hope it will. It's only one in a constellation of spiritual laws and principles that combine to produce desired results.
For Spiritual Sidestepping: Using the Law of Attraction in the hope that it is strong enough to make it unnecessary for us to clean up our psychological trauma and other baggage is an exercise in denial. Because we live our lives at the level of our wounds not our wishes, attempting to use the Law of Attraction by itself reinforces shame instead of producing desired results.
I agree with Dr. Gruder who offers 7 ingredients to making LoA work. It starts with people willing to do the inner works so the law can work for them:
Accepting that you're having difficulty manifesting the Law of Attraction.
Accepting this is not your fault: Some supposed experts in human potential are corrupt because they're promoting New Age Snake Oil to line their own pockets more than to serve people. What makes this corrupt is that they're promoting false hope, which only reinforces shame.
Becoming open to discovering what’s missing from the law of attraction that’s been preventing them from getting the results they desire.
Discovering the two ways the Law of Attraction is misused in ways that produce false hope that ends up reinforcing shame.
Understanding the Missing Laws.
Become willing to:
Uncover your limiting beliefs.
Identify the ULEs (Undigested life Experiences) that are keeping those limiting beliefs locked within you.
Become willing to consider the possibility that maybe those limiting beliefs are wrong.
Practice harvesting gifts from your ULEs so these experiences are finally able deepen your capacity to be authentic, to bond with others, and to have positive impact in the world.
If taking those steps proves insufficient to free you to successfully utilize the Law of Attraction, it's still not your fault. You simply need facilitation from a psychotherapist who is masterful at helping people get free from traumas that are still running them despite their best attempts at self-help.

Do NOT become a casualty! BEWARE, BE AWARE! Do your own research.
For example, as I researched Napoleon Hill, I was flabbergasted that I ever put my hopes in this controversial figure. He has been accused of fraud several times, went through several bankruptcies and divorces. Modern historians doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney. Books written by Andrew Carnegie tend to be in opposition to what we find in Think and Grow Rich.
If a whole movement got its birth and is still being promoted based on false premises, what does it mean about society? What more have we been blindfolded with?
Think about all the false claims regarding SARS-CoV2 now coming to the surface. It was mainly propaganda with no scientific research to back things up:
wearing masks
6-ft distancing
safe and effective vaccines
taking the jab to protect others
The deception, that ruined the economy of many countries (yet with high profits for the perpetrators), was based on artificially created fear, one of the strongest emotion and motivator one can experience. It leads many to make decisions based on instinctual reaction, rather than conscious reasoning and critical thinking.
Ask yourself, “Whom does this benefit?” Follow the money and make a conscious decision, based on critical thinking, NOT clever manipulation.
BEWARE, BE AWARE and
LIVE with PASSION, PURPOSE and DELIGHT!
