Greetings to all,
Finding My Path: A Journey of Faith and Rebellion
I was checking different personality tests and realized that I was a rebel at heart. I just don’t like to follow the crowd or bend to rules I don’t think are just and fair. I have questioned ideas from early on.
My first big “going against the flow” moment was at age 16.
In Switzerland, religious education is part of the school curriculum during the last two years, 8th and 9th grades. There was a Protestant or Catholic curriculum. I was of the Protestant faith, baptized as a baby. At age 16, we were to “take communion,” meaning we accepted the beliefs taught to us and became “adult Christians”… something like that. It was a big church and family day.
I attended children’s church every Sunday, plus some Saturdays, as my grandmother had become a 7th-day Adventist. My parents attended on Sundays as long as it was an independent church. When it became a State-sponsored church, they stopped attending, yet sent my two brothers and me to children’s church.
We learned about the stories of the Bible and how to get along and live an ethical life.
At 16, I had doubts. My uncle, a pastor, believed in the 7-day creation. My science teacher had proof of evolution over millions of years. Obviously, the teachings contradicted each other, and I started to question the whole thing.
I went to speak to my pastor and told him I could not take communion in good faith, as I was not sure what I believed at that time. He understood and congratulated me for taking a stand. I was the only one… and still had a big family feast.
I then became an atheist for about 2 years. It’s a hard road. You are alone… there is nothing before and after… I read Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra book, where he says, “God Is Dead”, and later saw a tag on a wall saying, “Nietzsche Is Dead… God!”
Being agnostic was easier. It questioned whether there was a “God” or not. It is not dogmatic and allowed open research.
Feeling lonely and suicidal at 20, I decided to “end it all” after I read one last book. I went to the bookstore and found the writings of Tuesday Lobsang Rampa, a Zen Buddhist monk, who said that if people commit suicide, they would come back to a harder life, without choice. Ouch! Not what I wanted to hear, and a bit scary.
I read all of his books, then those from Krishnamurti and Sri Aurobindo.
I decided to take a trip for enlightenment. I was still 20, and in August, flew to London to join 19 other people for an overland trip to Kathmandu. We stopped in New Delhi, and I visited Sri Aurobindo’s ashram. The guru there told me that I could travel the world over and never find what I was looking for. It was hidden inside of me, in my heart. He sent me to the garden to meditate…
I spent 3 months in Kathmandu, then traveled through Darjeeling, Bangladesh, Calcutta, Madras, and Sri Lanka, where I worked at an orphanage for a month. I had to be flown back to Switzerland, as my knees required surgery.
In Switzerland, I was no longer required to pay a church tax since I had become a Buddhist!
In 1979, I had the opportunity to come to Washington DC to work as a chocolate and marzipan decoration representative. It did not last. I found myself in California, visiting a distant relative, then marrying a guy who had taken flying lessons with me.
I ended up in a “Christian” cult… way too long of a story. From being a rather confident young woman traveling the world, I became a fearful doormat, constantly frightened at the thought of what “God” would do to me if I faltered in my obligations. Fire and brimstone rained on us daily. Total subjection to their husbands and the pastor was the lot of women: “Obey unto death!"
In one of the churches I attended, women were not allowed to make money, at least not more than $500/year, cleaning homes and babysitting. Girls were discouraged from attending school after 8th grade. Until girls got married, the father had total authority over them; it was then transferred to the new husband.
This type of Christianity was far from the one I had grown up with, and I believe it is this type of Christianity that non-Christians have become familiar with: extreme patriarchy, women’s enslavement, intolerance of other faiths or orientations… This is NOT the message given by Christ, whose words have also been mistranslated.
I’ve read the Bible from cover to cover about a dozen times, and the Gospel message even more. Passages from my French Bible don’t always correlate with the English Bible. Interesting, isn’t it?
Glenda Green’s book Love Without End, Jesus Speaks reconciled me with Christianity. A lot of misinterpretations are corrected, and the future with new discoveries in quantum science is a fascinating read.
Why am I dwelling on this subject? Because Christianity is all over the news, thanks to or because of the controversy of the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games.
I was wondering if it would bring a resurgence of faith since Christianity was attacked. It seems it is so. Read the article in the following section.
Christianity is the West's Immune System
Since it concerns billions of people, I thought it might be interesting so have a look at the revivals taking place all over the world.

Thrive, the Movie
On Monday and for some odd reasons, I decided to watch the movie Thrive once again (I’ll watch Thrive II this coming week) - Click on the picture to watch it.
Would you believe that this morning, I got a copy of a blog, “Recognizing Patterns Empowers Predictions: Lessons from the Accuracy of THRIVE Warnings” with this opening, “When THRIVE: What on Earth Will It Take? premiered in 2011, we were ridiculed, slandered and dismissed by many for our 68 radical claims and predictions.
Now, 13 years later, not a single one of them has been invalidated.
Definitely worth watching.
