Joy, Absurdity and Money

Greetings to all,
In these strange times we are living in, it’s important to focus on what brings us joy. An exercise my clients and students did was to make a list of 20 things that brought them joy, from reading, taking a warm bubble bath with candlelight, going to a show, or taking an exotic trip.
Let’s do it. Make a list of 20 things that bring you joy.
Then, next to each, put a $ sign if it costs money. After that, put the letter P if you need to do the activity with people.
Write down when you did that activity for the last time.
Make it a point to do at least 3 of the activities on your list within the next week.
I love to explore: I have traveled to many breathtaking places in Europe, Asia, and North America. Presently, I am exploring the area around Denver, Colorado. Last week, I was in Vail for their Sunday Farmers Market, then took a gondola up the mountains, walked a mile to take another gondola back to the village, and did the trip in reverse. It was a fun day, which ended at the Dillon Art Festival.
Absurdity and chaos continue
We need to guard our minds more than ever. The below quote was shared by Del Bigtree of The Highwire.
Here is another poem about absurdity and paradoxes, which you may know.
One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead men got up to fight,
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other,
One was blind and the other couldn't, see
So they chose a dummy for a referee.
A blind man went to see fair play,
A dumb man went to shout "hooray!"
A paralysed donkey passing by,
Kicked the blind man in the eye,
Knocked him through a nine inch wall,
Into a dry ditch and drowned them all,
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came to arrest the two dead boys,
If you don't believe this story's true,
Ask the blind man he saw it too!
Whether you like Kamala Harris or not is NOT the point. The absurdity/paradox comes when you say, “In order to save democracy, I am going to nominate the next president.” !!!
Another paradox is the Olympic Games.
The first known Olympics were held in the summer of 776 B.C. at Olympia, a site in southern Greece where people went to worship their gods. In fact, the Olympics were created in honor of ancient Greece’s most famous god: Zeus, king of the gods. Athletes prayed to Zeus for victory and left gifts to thank him for their successes.
The 2004 Olympic games will start in Paris in a few hours. This “sporting event” will bring:
French Gendarmes: approximately 35,000
French Military Personnel: approximately 18,000 (mobilized on average each day)
Foreign Police Officers: over 2,000 (from 40+ countries)
LAPD Reserve Officers: 32 (from Los Angeles Police Department, sent to Paris for training and experience-sharing ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics)
Moreover, there are helicopters and drones flying over the city, and anti-submarine boats on the Seine River.
Since the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games of 2012 brought us a glimpse into a pandemic situation (which we experienced 8 years later), people are waiting with baited breath about the potential glimpse of a future prepared for us.
Keep JOY in your life, yet be WISE and discerning.
