Greetings to all,
Since I was dealing with tech issues during Thanksgiving, here is the newsletter I meant to send with my Thankfulness thoughts that can be used any day of the year.
When I was homeschooling my children, I studied the work of the late Win Wenger and his “Jedi School.” Children would finish 3rd or 4th grade in 3-4 weeks. College was done in 9 weeks if I remember well.
Win Wenger combined the Socratic method of asking questions with the use of the imagination, of Einstein fame.
One of the exercises to increase one’s IQ was Image Streaming. The idea is to pick up an object, a cup for example, and start talking about it, without pausing, without analyzing. Just talking; some even suggest recording the talk.
Instead of a cup, I started gratefulness streaming...
One day, I streamed images from the shampoo I was using as I was showering. My shampoo is made with coconut… so I am streaming a flow of images to where the coconuts come from… my imagination takes me back to children climbing palm trees in Sri Lanka to get me a fresh coconut… I am thankful for the courage of these children to climb up 50 feet so I could enjoy the refreshing water of a newly picked coconut… I see them chop the top with a machete, then hand me the opened coconut to quench my thirst… they even made a little spoon from the outer shell, to scrape the soft meat inside…
Images of children and parents come to mind… they live in coconut groves, picking up the nuts to make my shampoo - I am sure there are machines to do that now - the soil the palm trees grow in… the people who tend the trees…
Men and women wear colorful clothes, so I am thankful for the material and the colors… and the people who make the clothing…
On another track, I am grateful to the chemists who learned how to turn coconut into healthy shampoos that do not damage my hair… to the plastic tubes the shampoo comes in… to the people who work in the factories to make the finish product… to the store and clerks that sell the products… and for the money I make which allows me to buy the shampoo…
And on and on…
Thankfulness, gratefulness, appreciation streaming is a mindfulness game that keeps our energies on positive notes and which can potentially increase our IQ.
Pick up something… anything… and start the Image Streaming process…

A few years ago, as I was living in a travel trailer, I decided to start an indoor hydroponic garden. I don’t remember why the idea tickled my fancy; the results were amazing. From December, a month after I started my mini-farm, to the following October when I moved away, I did not have to buy any greens. I had plenty of fresh, healthy, organic greens to enjoy bountiful salads and smoothies.
I am presently finding myself in Colorado, for an extended visit with one of my daughters. I missed my hydroponic days, so I ordered 3 mini gardens. #1 is for salad greens. #2 is for greens in general and #3 is to grew some herbs.
It took only a couple of days for the Tatsoi to sprout… It took 6 days for all 9 pods of #2 to sprout. #1 is slowly getting there. Patience will be needed for the herbs, as some take 15 days or more to sprout.
It does NOT take much room, does not take much time, does not make a mess and the results are spectacular. The cost is recovered quite quickly.
Here is a picture of the daily salad I used to enjoy, day after day. Organic greens, freshly picked, i.e. full of nutrients and NOT sprayed with chemicals, … delicious!
I would encourage EVERYBODY, especially if you have children, to start growing some greens. As I get settled, I plan on growing strawberries, tomatoes, mini-peppers, eggplants and cucumbers, the hydroponic way.
As an added bonus, these plants grow under full spectrum lights. So, even on gloomy, grey days, you’ll have sunshine in your room and/or kitchen. A mood booster!
That’s it for today.
Thank you for reading. Until next time,
Live with Purpose, Passion and Delight!
